Three teens in car reported stolen in custody after vehicle and foot chase

Three teens from the west side of the state are in custody after a pursuit by authorities in vehicles and on foot.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriffs Office, at approximately 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, deputies attempted to stop a 2017 Ford Escape reported stolen out of Kentwood, Mich., located just outside of Grand Rapids.

The Escape failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle exited from I-96 onto Spencer Road in Brighton Township before traveling into the City of Brighton. The vehicle then came to a stop, and all three teens fled on foot before being taken into custody.

The driver was identified as a 16-year-old male from Grand Rapids. The two passengers, ages 16 and 18, were both identified as males from Grand Rapids.

Charges of resisting and obstructing will be sought for all three teens; charges of fleeing and eluding will also be sought against the driver.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Brighton City Police Department and the Michigan State Police Brighton Post.
