A 2-month-old Fowlerville infant is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.
According to a statement from the Fowlerville Police Department, it was contacted by Child Protective Services at about 10:40 a.m. Monday for assistance with the case, and investigators found indications consistent with child abuse and neglect. Medical personnel also identified evidence of prior injuries in various states of healing.
The parents of the infant are minors. According to the statement, due to the age of the parents and the sensitive nature of the case, no additional identifying information will be released.
“Given the severity of the incident and the age of those involved, the Fowlerville Police Department is working closely with CPS, medical professionals, and partnering agencies to ensure a thorough and complete investigation,” the statement read.
No arrests have been made; the Fowlerville Police Department is conducting interviews and waiting for additional medical records and expert evaluations before determining potential charges. Officials ask for the “public’s understanding and patience as this process continues.”
The Fowlerville Police Department has been assisted by the Livingston County’s Sheriff’s Office, including its Detective Bureau and Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
