LETTER: Cage fights not appropriate way to celebrate 250th anniversary

Celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary kicks off June 14 — Flag Day — which also happens to be President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

A picture of the White House, with visible red white and blue arches among all the other changes there, is jolting. The arches are part of the stage built behind the White House on the south lawn for this Sunday’s UFC fight.

UFC fights are enjoyed by many Americans, and they have their place. However, the spectacle of two shirtless men beating each other up this Sunday night as part of our nation’s 250th Anniversary Celebration seems beyond belief. Lots of money is being made – the Presidents says it’s a “hot ticket.” So hot that only very rich people will be in attendance.

I personally don’t think a cage fight is an appropriate venue to take place giving the solemnity of the occasion of our nation’s birthday, particularly on the grounds of the people’s house.
