Semi-tractor trailer accident closes part of I-96 for five hours

An accident involving a semi-tractor trailer on eastbound I-96 between Highland Road (M-59) and Fowlerville Road at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018,  closed the right lane of the freeway for approximately five hours while the vehicle was removed.

According to the preliminary investigation of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a 39-year-old Roscommon resident was operating a 2011 Freightliner eastbound on I-96 when he fell asleep. The tractor trailer went off the roadway to the right, into the ditch, and then rolled on its side. No one was hurt in the incident. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, while the driver was issued a citation for careless driving.

The right lane of I-96 remained closed for approximately 5 hours while the tractor trailer was removed from the area.
