On Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, 31-year-old Dane Mathew Steward of Royal Oak was arraigned before the Honorable Derek Meinecke of the 44th District Court. Steward is charged with one count of first-degree murder, a felony that carries a panalty of life in prison without possibility of parole.
Steward was denied bond. His next scheduled court date is set for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 1, 2019. Steward does not have a criminal history; however, he is also wanted out of Gratiot and Livingston counties for his actions stemming from the assault on deputies and lengthy pursuit on Jan. 17, 2019.
