Motorcyclist transported to UM Hospital with life-threatening injuries after crash on Old U.S. 23

At approximately 7:08 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious injury crash in the area of Old U.S. 23, north of Spencer Road, in Brighton Township.

Preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Harley Davidson operated by a 29-year-old Highland resident was southbound on Old U.S. 23 when it rear-ended a 2012 Chevrolet Express Van operated by a 48-year-old Livonia resident who was turning left into a private driveway.

The Highland resident was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital by Livingston County Ambulance with life threatening injuries. The Livonia resident was not injured. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors, while speed remains under investigation. The Highland resident was wearing a DOT-approved helmet. The Livonia resident was wearing his seatbelt.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Brighton Area Fire Department, Livingston County Ambulance, and the Michigan State Police.

This crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Major Crash Team.
