Freightliner filled with Coke products rolls over on M-59

On Wednesday, June 23, 2021, deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highland Road (M-59) near Hughes Road in Oceola Township.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported that the vehicle — a 2011 Freightliner operated by JME Trucking out of Petoskey — was stopped on the eastbound shoulder of Highland Road. As the vehicle started up, it began to sink on the soft shoulder before rolling onto its side. At the time of the incident, the trailer was loaded with Coca Cola products.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from Petoskey, received minor injuries and was transported to Providence Park Hospital in Novi for treatment. Traffic was affected in the area until 3:30 a.m. while the vehicle was unloaded and towed from the scene.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by officers with the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Howell Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS and Michigan Department of Transportation.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation pending toxicology reports.
