Fowlerville man in critical condition after moped crash

A 60-year-old Fowlerville man is in critical condition after being trapped under a moped after a single-vehicle crash on Friday, July 24.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to eastbound Grand River Avenue, just east of Owosso Road in Howell Township, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday July 24, 2020. The preliminary investigation reveals that a moped operated by a 60-year-old Fowlerville Resident was traveling east on Grand River Avenue when he left the roadway, crashed on the gravel shoulder and became trapped under the moped.

The man was air-lifted by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition. Deputies were assisted on the scene by Fowlerville Police Department, Howell Area Fire Department, Livingston County Ambulance, and U of M Survival Flight.

It appears alcohol may be a factor in this crash. The moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Major Crash Team.
