The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department has identified the people involved in the deadly motorcycle crash at Owosso and West Allen roads in Handy Township on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

According to the preliminary investigation, Shane Rusinek, 19, of Canton, was driving a 2005 Ford cargo van north on Owosso Road with passenger Isaac Mikola, 17, of New Hudson. The van turned west onto West Allen Road when it was struck by a motorcycle traveling south on Owosso Road.

The motorcycle driver, Joshua Miller, 28, and passenger Christina Durfee, 31, both of Fowlerville, were pronounced dead at the scene by Livingston County EMS. Miller was not wearing a helmet, while Durfee was wearing a full helmet.

Rusinek suffered minor injuries, and Mikola was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital by Livingston EMS with minor injuries.

The intersection of Owosso and West Allen roads was closed for approximately 4-1/2 hours during the investigation. Alcohol and speed may be a factor in the crash, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, and the accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Fowlerville Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
