You are cordially invited to tumble down the rabbit hole this weekend as Brighton School of Ballet presents its whimsical full-length production of “Alice in Wonderland” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Brighton Center for the Performing Arts.
Filled with colorful costumes, imaginative characters, and playful storytelling, the ballet promises an entertaining afternoon for audience members of all ages. The production follows Alice’s journey through Wonderland as she encounters familiar favorites including the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, and White Rabbit.
The performance is part of Brighton School of Ballet’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration. Founded in 1976 by Deborah Shiposh, the studio has been part of the downtown Brighton community for half a century, inspiring generations of dancers and audiences alike.
“This production is especially meaningful as we celebrate 50 years of Brighton School of Ballet,” said Katrina Frelich, Shiposh’s daughter and now second-generation owner and artistic director of the studio. “’Alice in Wonderland’ is such a joyful, imaginative ballet, and it’s wonderful to bring it back for a new generation to enjoy.”
The studio has performed “Alice in Wonderland” twice before, with the most recent production in 2004.
Following the full-length ballet, audience members will also enjoy brief performances by several of the studio’s other students, including some of the youngest dancers, the teen/adult ballet class, as well as lyrical and contemporary classes.
Tickets are $25 with reserved seating and must be purchased online in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
