Pinckney resident killed in three-car crash

Authorities suspect alcohol to be a contributing factor in a three-car crash on Pinckney Road north of Coon Lake Road in Marion Township at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, that claimed the life of a 50-year-old Pinckney resident.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a 2013 Mazda 3 driven by a 50-year-old Pinckney resident was southbound on Pinckney Road when it crossed the center line, sideswiped a northbound 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 31-year-old Howell resident, and then struck head-on a 2015 Ford Focus driven by a 25-year-old Pinckney woman.

The driver of the Mazda 3 was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Pinckney woman in the Ford Focus was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center with severe but non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe were not injured.

According to the release from the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the Mazda 3 was not wearing a seatbelt, while seatbelt use by the other drivers remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post, Livingston County EMS and Howell Area Fire Department.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
