Pinckney Poms heading to Disney World for performance

The Varsity Pom Team from Pinckney High School will perform at Walt Disney World in February 2017 as a result of their performance at the annual Badgerette Midwest Grand Championships held in Illinois in August.

The team competed against the top 19 varsity teams in the Midwest and won second place overall, second place for both their competitive and lyrical dances, fourth place for senior kickline and fifth for short program.

Senior Faith Klein and sophomore Isabelle Royston placed fifth out of 53 dances for their duet performance.

The entire varsity team was honored with the Betsy Carr Award for Sportsmanship, an award presented to only one team each year at the Midwest competition. Parents and athletes demonstrated great leadership, positive attitudes and strong spirit throughout the competition.

Pinckney’s Junior Varsity Pom Team also performed at the Badgerette competition, bringing home first place trophies in the skills dance, open performance and kickline.

Earlier in the summer the varsity, junior varsity and middle school pom teams from Pinckney all attended Central Michigan University’s Badgerette Pom & Dance Camp.

The varsity team took first place overall as well as in the open routine, hip hop, short program and senior kick. Senior Hayley Conry won first overall with a solo dance and three Pinckney students received the “All Star” award: Faith Klein, Felicity Couch and Hayley Conry. The team also won an award for the leadership and teamwork they displayed at camp.

The junior varsity team swept their division at camp, taking first place in the skills dance and open routine.

The Pathfinder Poms middle school team also won several awards at the Badgerette camp including the “Sunshine Award,” presented to the team that exhibits the most spirit, enthusiasm, eagerness and sportsmanship. The team also received first place for their open dance routine.

The three Pinckney pom teams worked hard all summer, putting in many hours of practice time to prepare for camp and competitions, and putting in extra time to help choreograph and fundraise for their teams.

All look forward to a fun year of performances ahead, and to representing Pinckney with their positivity and dedication.
