Howell grad looking for information to include in book on Highlander football

Rich Robinson is writing the definitive book about Howell High School football, and he’s on the hunt for anything interesting to include.

The member of the Howell High School Class of 1979 is assembling a truly amazing amount of information for the book, including images of every HHS football game story written from 1920 to the present day, and a list of every coach and player.

“I am looking for any and all interesting stories, photos, etc., that people would like to see included,” Robinson said.

Since graduating from Howell High School and Central Michigan University, Robinson’s had a career that took him coast to coast, from Hollywood, where he worked in television, to Washington, D.C., where he worked in strategic communications for nonprofits. He’s also an inductee of the CMU Media Hall of Fame. You can read his bio here.

And Robinson knows Highlander football. He was the defensive back and backup quarterback who helped the Highlanders win the last Capital Circuit championship in 1978, just before the team joined the Kensington Valley conference.

The book, which Robinson will be publishing in the fall of 2027, is a gift to the Howell Athletic Department.

The former sportswriter for the HHS Main Four said he’s been subconsciously thinking about this book since he was 17.

“I’ve always had a deep respect for history and the eras of athletes that came before me,” he said.

Robinson, who also played left field on the baseball team, is the driving force behind the popular alumni baseball games, which began in 2007.

You can email any information, interesting stories, and pictures for the book to howellgreenandgold@gmail.com.
