Volunteers from the Philip Livingston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are hosting a series of special events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, including some that will be held in collaboration with Livingston County.
“These events are a chance to celebrate AMERICA 250!, have some fun, remember some history and to share the important work that Daughters of American Revolution and The Questers do in our country and to invite others to check out these organizations,” said Lou Ann Lathrop, incoming Regent Philip Livingston NSDAR chapter.
The focus of the DAR’s commemorative efforts across the country are to celebrate the nation’s rich history and diversity of experiences by honoring all men and women who helped achieve American independence. DAR members, inspired by the service of their Revolutionary War ancestors, are celebrating through by performing acts of community service and hosting educational events.
“Daughters have always had a heart for community volunteerism so expanding our work to mark the semiquincentennial is a natural extension of the work we have done locally for more than 135 years,” said Ginnie Sebastian Storage, DAR President General. “As part of our organization’s mission to preserve and promote American history, education, and patriotism, DAR’s focus on volunteer community service to improve the lives of all Americans is the perfect way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country.”
