No leaks in early morning U.S. 23 rollover of semi hauling sulfuric acid

At about 3:34 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, a tractor/trailer hauling 44,000 gallons of sulfuric acid overturned on northbound U.S. 23 near Center Road in Tyrone Township.

The driver of the tractor/trailer, a 38-year-old Saginaw man, did not recall what happened prior to the crash; however, according to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the scene showed that the tractor/trailer crossed the entrance ramp for Center Road and shoulder before going off into the grass ditch and overturning, coming to rest on its roof.

The driver, who had to be extricated from the cab, was transported by Livingston County EMS to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township with minor injuries.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. The tanker, registered to KAG Leasing of Canton, Ohio, was not leaking after the crash.

The freeway remained open. Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Mentor Fire Department, Fenton City Police, Livingston County EMS, and MDOT.
