The Community Theatre of Howell is presenting the musical “Singin’ in the Rain Jr.” this weekend at the Howell High School Freshman Campus. From now until opening night on March 15, we’ll be introducing you to members of the cast. In today’s story, we meet Lauren Cartier, who plays Miss Dinsmore and appears in the tap ensemble.

As tap-dance musicals go, you can’t do much better than “Singin’ in the Rain.”

So when Lauren Cartier found out the Community Theatre of Howell was bringing that show to the stage, she knew she wanted to audition.

Lauren Cartier plays Miss Dinsmore in the show.

“Tap dancing is one of my favorite styles of dance,” said Lauren, a 12th-grade homeschooler from Howell. “My favorite part of this show is the dance. I’ve danced for 13 years at Gift of Joy Dance Co.”

Lauren landed a role as Miss Dinsmore in the show, and also appears (naturally) in the tap ensemble.

The daughter of Mark and Becky Cartier, Lauren has five siblings: Sarah, John, Troy, Clare and Gabe. This is her first show with CTH.

“I’ve been struck by how kind and welcoming everyone has been to me,” she said. “The Lord has blessed me so much by this experience and the friends I have made. Without Him I could do nothing. What I like most about CTH is how everyone looks out for each other and how kind everyone is.

“I’m very grateful to the Johnson family, particularly Katie Johnson, who first told me about this play and encouraged me to try out for a part!”

With the show opening this week, Lauren said it’s going to be an audience-pleaser in every way.

“The audience can expect a wonderful show – they’ll leave the theater with a smile on their face, a song in their head and a spring in their step,” she said.

“Singin’ in the Rain Jr.” takes the stage March 15-17 at the Howell High School Freshman Campus.  Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $9, available by clicking here.
