Interested in learning more about law enforcement? Sheriff’s Citizens Academy accepting applications

Applications are being accepted for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy.

Classes generally run from 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursdays, with the exception of one class that will be on a Saturday. The majority of the classes will be at the EMS Building, 1911 Tooley Road in Howell, with the exception of a few that will be at the sheriff’s department, 150 S Highlander Way, Howell.

The schedule for the academy is as follows:

• Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 – Opening Night Introductions, Course Overview, Community Outreach Unit, Under 100 Program
• Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 from 1-5 p.m. – Motor Vehicle Operation at the Fowlerville Proving Grounds
• Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 – Traffic Enforcement, Accident Reconstruction, Explorer Program
• Nov. 29, 2018- Victim Services, Peer Support Team, K-9
• Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 – Patrol Operations and Tactics / Dive Team
• Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 – Use of Force / Traffic Stops / MILO
• Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 – LAWNET – Narcotics, DEA Task Force
• Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 – Corrections Overview / Transports / Jail Tour / Jail SRT
• Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 – Internet Dangers / Animal Control / Central Dispatch
• Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 – Detectice Bureau / Crime Scene Investigation
• Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019 – Hostage SRT / Tactical Response Team
• Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 – Honor Guard, Graduation
