
A cannon-type device that blew up during a baby shower in Gaines Township, southwest of Flint, claimed the life of 26-year-old Evan Thomas Silva of Hartland on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021.
According to multiple news reports, the cannon, which was part of the baby shower celebration, blew up when it was fired by the homeowner, causing metal shrapnel to strike three parked vehicles, the garage in which the baby shower was being held, and the unidentified victim, who was standing nearby.
Silva was transported in serious condition to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where he later died.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
