Early morning rollover on I-96 sends two to hospital

An apparent medical emergency may have contributed to a rollover crash on eastbound I-96 near Pinckney Road at approximately 5:12 a.m. Thursday, July 22.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a 78-year-old Warren resident was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse eastbound on I-96 near Pinckney Road when it rear-ended a 2011 Ford Focus driven by a 51-year-old Howell resident. The Chevrolet Traverse lost control, went into the median, and rolled onto its side.

Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries: the Warren resident was transported to Providence Park Novi Hospital, while the Howell resident was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, it appears the Warren resident had a medical emergency. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County Ambulance.
