Deputy sustains minor injury in arrest of suspect driving on golf course, through yards

Possible drug use is suspected in the apprehension of a 34-year-old Fenton man Sunday, Sept. 17, after a brief struggle in which a deputy from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office sustained a minor injury.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Preserve Golf Course in Tyrone Township after someone reported a gray Ford Fusion driving on the course. The vehicle was also reported to have driven through the yards of nearby homes.

The vehicle was spotted leaving the nearby subdivision, and a traffic stop was attempted at Lee Jones and Nimphie roads. The suspect did not stop and continued onto Old U.S. 23 before entering southbound U.S. 23.

Deputies stopped the vehicle on southbound U.S. 23 north of Highland Road by boxing it in. The driver was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The suspect is being held in the Livingston County Jail on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing.
