Put on your shamrocks, because it’s time to Run for the Gold!

One of the most popular 5K runs in Michigan takes to the streets of Pinckney on Saturday, March 14 – the Run for the Gold 5K and Kids Run.

The run takes place as part of Pinckney’s big St. Patrick’s Day celebration that day. The 5K run starts at 10 a.m., with the Kids Run at 11 a.m., right before the parade, which starts at noon.

This year’s Run for the Gold 5K and Kids Dash is the 10th-annual event, and it’s fast become one of the most popular runs in Michigan, attracting hundreds of runners each year. The race starts and ends in downtown Pinckney, with a beautiful route that winds through the neighboring roads and the Lakelands Trail.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in each age group. Participants will be treated to a post-race party featuring food Hungry Howie’s, Little Caesars and Busch’s.

The registration fee is $30 for the 5K until Feb. 28 ($35 after that) and $10 for the Fun Run. Anyone signing up by Feb. 28 is guaranteed a free race T-shirt printed by Solar Graphics. For age 65 and over, the cost is only $20.

Another bonus: Tennyson Photography will be at the finish line capturing photos of the racers. Images will be available for free download 48 hours after the event. The Sound Crew by Ron Tennyson is also providing DJ services for the event.

The Run for the Gold is put on by the Light of the World Academy and Light of the World Montessori Preschool. Sponsors include Michael Szafranski State Farm Insurance Agency (presenting sponsor), Keider Painting Company, Lepper and Company Accounting, Way of Life Martial Arts, Lavey Insurance Agency, Pinckney Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Todd’s Services, while Hamburg Fitness and the Running Lab have donated prizes for the runners.

On March 13 – the night before the race – there will be a spaghetti dinner for the runners and families at Shalom Lutheran Church, 1740 E. M-36 in Pinckney. The race packet pickup at the church is 3-7 p.m., with the dinner set for 5-7 p.m. A freewill donation will be taken.
