North Star Reach, a nonprofit camp providing life-changing experiences for children with serious health challenges and their families, is holding its third-annual open house 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at its camp, located at 1200 University Camp Drive in Pinckney.

Held during the organization’s 10th anniversary, the Year of Mooseness, the open house offers a unique opportunity for families, volunteers, donors, and community members to experience the magic of the camp firsthand.

This free, family friendly event is designed to welcome both first-time visitors and long-time supporters to explore North Star Reach’s 105-acre camp and connect with the community that makes its mission possible.

Guests can enjoy an afternoon of arts and crafts; archery and camp activities; a local food truck from La Finca Tacos, which is donating 10% of its proceeds back to the camp; and opportunities to meet campers, families, volunteers, and staff.

“Open House is one of the most meaningful ways for the community to experience what North Star Reach is all about,” said J.J. Lewis, chief executive officer. “It’s a chance to step into a space where children with serious health challenges can simply be kids, build friendships, and feel a true sense of belonging. During our Year of Mooseness, this event is a celebration of the community that makes that possible.”

The event also serves as an important entry point for those interested in becoming part of the North Star Reach community. Families considering applying for camp, individuals exploring volunteer opportunities, and community members looking to get involved are encouraged to attend and learn more.

“Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to a place you love, Open House is about connection,” said Cassy Sleeper, corporate philanthropy director. “It’s where you can see camp come to life and understand the impact it has on children and families.”

North Star Reach is proud to recognize the sponsors who help make this event possible, including Delta Dental (Campily Sponsor) and Sciens | Elite Fire Division (Moose Tracks Sponsor).

The Open House is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, family, and neighbors to experience camp together.
