Police discovered the body of a dead woman in a house on Van Winkle Street in Brighton Township on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 7, 2018.

Foul play is not suspected, according to Lt. Mario Gonzales, assistant post commander of the Brighton Michigan State Police Post.

The woman was described as a loner with medical issues. Gonzales said that while it’s unclear how long she has been deceased, it may be a couple months. The body was discovered after a neighbor knocked on the dead woman’s door to return mail that had gotten delivered with his own. The neighbor saw flies around the front door and called police.

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results.
