Michigan International Prep School celebrates National School Choice Week

Michigan International Prep School (MIPS) participated in National School Choice Week this past week. MIPS services students in grades K-12 all across the state of Michigan (with a drop-in Learning Lab located in Howell). MIPS is inherently a school of choice. Not one student’s zip code dictates their enrollment at MIPS; the choice to enroll is made by students and parents who are in search of a highly innovative, flexible, rigorous, and rewarding academic experience.

MIPS staff has worked tirelessly to make sure all students are experiencing as many academic and social activities as possible during an unpredictable year. From virtual field trips to the Toledo Zoo and the apple orchard, to a virtual 5K for our MIPS Running Club, MIPS continues to provide world-class experiences for all of its learners.

In keeping with this vision, MIPS launched a School of Music this fall, offering professional, one-on-one instruction (Guitar, Piano, or Voice), a fascinating study of the use of music in film (Music in Movies), and weekly virtual calls with a vibrant and engaged community of fellow student musicians. MIPS believes strongly in the importance of the arts as a crucial element of educational development.

Additionally, MIPS introduced an Enhanced Dual Enrollment pathway this fall in partnership with Cleary University, allowing advanced students to accrue free college credit – up to an associate degree in Business Administration – during their high school career. It is our aim to cultivate an environment where students have the resources and support necessary to design an educational pathway that aligns with their unique talents and interests.

School choice and placing the student and family in the driver’s seat are core to the mission and vision of MIPS. MIPS staff have created a brief video to highlight a few of the many reasons why this charter school embraces, celebrates, and loves school choice!
