Howell man facing charges after Sunday’s high-speed chase

The driver in custody following Sunday morning’s high-speed chase that began in the City of Howell and ended in Cohoctah Township is being held on $500,000 bond in the Livingston County Jail.

Carl George Prince, 48, of Howell, is facing charges that include possession of methamphetamine, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, and a weapons offense.

The chase began in the area of Eager Road and Highland Road (M-59) in Oceola Township when deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Howell City Police Department with a vehicle pursuit of a suspect in a breaking and entering. Deputies took over the lead and pursued the suspect through Howell and Cohoctah townships, with speeds reaching 70 mph.

As the vehicle turned south on Oak Grove Road near Sanford Road, a PIT maneuver was performed by a deputy. After the maneuver, the suspect’s vehicle rammed a sheriff’s vehicle before being blocked in.
Prince was taken into custody with the use of a Sheriff’s canine and a taser before being turned over to the Howell Police Department; the suspect was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
