Star athlete, former mayor, news anchor make up inaugural BHS Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame

The first annual honoring of distinguished Brighton High School graduates is set to take place on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the high school cafeteria, when Drew Henson, Kate Lawrence, and Dave LewAllen are enshrined on the Alumni Wall of Fame.

Henson, Class of 1998, was a star athlete, playing both baseball and football at BHS. He was named the National High School Player of the Year when he was quarterback of the Brighton Bulldogs. He went on to quarterback for the University of Michigan Wolverines. He played professional baseball for the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds, as well as professional football for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions. Lawrence, Class of 1976, owns Lawrence Body Shop in Brighton. She has served as Brighton’s mayor, as well as a member of the Livingston County Board of Commissioners. She’s also served as state president of the Michigan Municipal League.

LewAllen, Class of 1975, is a popular news anchor for Detroit’s Channel 7. He’s won numerous Emmys in over 35 years in the media, and he does a lot of charity work throughout the state.

To be considered for inclusion in the BHS Wall of Fame, a graduate needs to have significant and exemplary contributions, service or accomplishments in at least one of these areas: Brighton community, civic involvement, volunteerism, philanthropy, career success, service to the nation, leadership, or other contributions or accomplishments. To be considered, the person must have graduated from Brighton High School at least 10 years ago.

Nominations will be accepted May through August each year, with the Wall of Fame inductees announced in early September.
