Slotkin seems to enjoy spending time in Livingston County

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and the cast of “Newsies.”

While U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin doesn’t have a district office in Livingston County, she sure seems to be spending a lot of quality time here since taking office in January.

Take this past weekend for example: Slotkin was in Pinckney on Saturday for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. (You can see a lot of pics from the parade by clicking here.)

And then, she stuck around for that evening’s performance of “Newsies” at Brighton High School. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews for the production, and while I am sure Slotkin enjoyed the performance, she actually stuck around and hung out with the cast.

Even before this weekend, we’ve had lots of Slotkin sightings at organized events, as well as out and about in the community.

Perhaps part of the reason Slotkin, a Democrat from Holly, is out and about her so much is that she doesn’t have a district office in the county, unlike former U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop, a Republican from Rochester Hills, who maintained a district office in Brighton. While the visibility of an office in the community is noteworthy, it never felt to me that Bishop spent much time here above and beyond the natural political appearances.

Whatever the reason for all the Slotkin sightings, it’s obvious that she excels at — and enjoys — retail politics. I am guessing we have a lot more Slotkin sightings in our future.
