Murphy McIntyre, 14, plays Sour Kangaroo, a fun, loud, brassy character with a lot of attitude in the Hartland Players’ Encore Youth Theater’s production of “Seussical Jr.”
“I love being able to become characters that are vastly different from myself,” said McIntyre, who is in the eighth grade. The daughter of Kelly and Dave McIntyre, she has a younger brother, Duncan, and participates in tap and jazz dance, and theater. Her hobbies include playing in the school band, playing piano, making arts and crafts, and creative writing. In the future, she plans to go to college and major in business or psychology.
Her path to theater was through one of Encore’s Boot Camps.
“I singed up … in 2014, and fell in love with theater,” she said. “I’ve been doing it ever since.”
McIntyre has been in too many productions to count, but some of her most recent roles include Bella in Encore’s production of “Drac’s Back,” a hyena in Scranton Players’ production of “The Lion King Jr.,” and as Pepper in the Hartland Players’ production of “Annie.”
“I love being able to spend time with the friends I’ve made through this,” she said. “My biggest inspirations are my friends because in all of my interests, they inspire me to work hard and improve at my craft.”
McIntyre’s favorite part of the “Seussical Jr.” is “seeing it all come together and all of our hard work paying off.”
She promises the audience will see a production full of “fun, crazy, and colorful characters and songs,” in addition to a “thought-provoking story that will show you anything’s possible.”
The Hartland Players’ Encore Youth Theater is presenting “Seussical Jr.,” a musical based on the children’s stories of Dr. Seuss.
