Sears Hometown in Howell liquidating inventory, closing

The Sears Hometown store in Howell is closing later this month, according to reports, and before it does, it’s liquidating all its merchandise.

Sears Holdings announced in November that it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closing 142 Sears and Kmart stores across the country. It was confirmed that four Michigan locations were among the closings, including the Briarwood Mall location.

You’ll find the full list of national closures here.

You won’t find the Howell store on the list because Sears Holdings — which owns the traditional Sears stores — spun off more than 1,100 Sears Hometown and 122 Sears Outlet Stores in 2012 in an attempt to stay afloat.

Hometown stores are small hardware and appliance stores that are operated by independent retailers, while the Outlet stores sell Sears merchandise at discount.
