Scottie Bell brings years of acting experience to her role in “Our Town”

To prepare for her role as Julia Gibbs in Hartland Drama Club’s production of “Our Town,” Hartland High School junior Scottie Bell found a source of inspiration right in her own home — her mother.

“For this particular role, I paid a lot of attention to my mom,” she said, adding that both women have a generous nature and put the needs of others before their own. “They are very similar, so Mrs. Gibbs became easier to relate to. In playing Mrs. Gibbs I experienced a little of what it’s like to be a mother, and it has made me further appreciate mothers everywhere.”

Bell, the daughter of Randy and Mary Jo Bell, has been involved in Hartland Community Theater for the past 11 years, is influenced by acting icons such as Meryl Streep and would love to pursue a career in show business. Although she tends to prefer musical theater, she says “Our Town” is one of her favorite shows.

“There is something special about this show,” she said. “This production is unique because of its talented cast and crew. I hope audiences can relate to something from the show and apply their own experience to their real life.”

Bell said Hartland’s productions are successful because of its dedicated crews, Director Scott Usher´s “incredible vision and passion for every show he directs” and the support of those in the community who purchase tickets and attend the shows.

She’s especially proud of how hard Drama Club works to bring its productions to fruition.

“We get to see this whole thing come together and turn from an idea into something real and important,” she said. “Bring tissues and a friend, or maybe a couple.”
