SAT practice helps students succeed

//

The Brighton Area Schools (BAS) Alumni Association is offering a SAT practice test for area middle and high school students on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Brighton High School Cafeteria, 7878 Brighton Road, Brighton, MI 48116. Testing begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends by 1:30 p.m. More information can be found at www.BrightonMIAlumni.com.

The SAT is a timed, standardized test created and administered by The College Board with the aim of assessing what students have learned in high school and what is needed to succeed in college. The study habits and choices required to be successful in school directly apply to helping students prepare to take the SAT. The SAT consists of a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, and a Math Test with an optional Essay.

The Practice Test will simulate the actual test day conditions the students will encounter. Students can learn what to expect at an official SAT by participating in a SAT Practice Test before the score counts toward college admission and financial aid decision. Kaplan, Inc. has created the practice test to be used on March 14th and students will have immediate access to test scoring via smartphone or computer once the test is complete.  Through an agreement with Kaplan, students participating in the BAS Alumni Association’s SAT practice test will have access to free Kaplan online test-taking strategy, practice, and learning seminars for continued preparation.

One Career Exploration Scholarship (up to $250 value) will be awarded by random draw to a student in grades 6-8 who early registers by Feb. 28 and completes the March 14 practice test on-site.  A student is only allowed to win once each academic year.  The Winner must be accepted and attend an approved career exploration program of his/her choice.

Those students who cannot attend the SAT practice test on March 14 can choose to receive a copy of the test to complete at home. Students must early register by Feb 28; a copy of the test will be forwarded by March 18 for completion and scoring at a time of the student’s choosing.

Early registration by 5 p.m., Feb. 28, is available for a $35 non-refundable donation to BAS Alumni Association scholarships by in-person at the Brighton District Library, by mail received at BAS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1163, Brighton, Mich. 48116, or online at www.BrightonMIAlumni.com for credit cards with a $2 handling fee. As space allows, door registration for a $50 non-refundable donation will be available beginning at 9:15 a.m. on March 14.  Questions can be directed to BASAlumniSAT@gmail.com or (810) 227-0656.
