Improving the township’s infrastructure and helping senior citizens are two of the priorities of a pair of Democrats running for Putnam Township trustee.
Jim Brady, who led the effort to create a special assessment district so his neighborhood would have better streets and other infrastructure, and Jim Robert, vice-president of his neighborhood’s homeowners’ association, announced their candidacies in a news release.
“Having been a Livingston County resident for over 24 years, I understand the importance of our lakes, parks, bike/walking trails, schools and infrastructure,” Brady said.
“I want to work with the other board members to strengthen our community, improve our schools, fix our vital infrastructure and provide services for our seniors. I want to do what’s right and do it efficiently and for the least amount of taxpayer dollars. I am very fortunate that my job leaves me a substantial amount of time to focus on township business and has given me the leadership experience to see things are done and done right.”
Brady has been a captain for more than 20 years with NetJets Aviation, a corporate aircraft operator. He served as a board member and financial trustee for the NetJets pilots’ union for nine years; was a founding member of the NetJets Pilot Assistance Program to provide treatment and FAA monitoring for pilots with substance and/or alcohol addiction; was a founding member and co-creator of the NetJets Family Foundation to provide financial help to pilots and their families in times of needs, and has been a volunteer for the past nine years at the Yankee Air Museum, piloting a B-25 Mitchell Bomber at Midwest events.
In 2018, Brady created a special assessment district to resurface his neighborhood’s street and add gutters. He organized the neighborhood, communicated with almost every resident, oversaw the survey, and brought the project in under budget, allowing it to expand beyond initial plans.
A lifelong Michigan resident, Brady attended Schoolcraft College and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1989. He and his wife, Mary Kay, have three children.
Robert is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pinckney, vice-president of Lake in the Woods Association, and a member of Whitmore Lake Rod and Gun Club. He is active in the Putnam Township Senior Center.
Robert said he would make increased police protection, more road repairs, and a recycling program his priorities.
“We need someone to stand up to the county commissioners and demand that they do a better job with roads and police,” he said, “if we want to make Putnam Township and Livingston County a better place to live.”
Born and raised in the metro Detroit area, Robert attended Henry Ford Community College and Wayne State University and has a degree in business management. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2013, where he was a supervisor. Robert has been a summer resident in Putnam Township since 1975 and moved here permanently after retiring. He and his wife, Ilene, have been married for 36 years.
