Minor injuries reported after head-on accident between truck and school bus

Seven Howell Public Schools students received minor injuries after the bus in which they were riding was hit head-on by a Chevrolet Silverado on Wiggins Road near Cohoctah Road in Deerfield Township at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, according to a press release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by an 18-year-old Deerfield Township resident was southbound on Wiggins Road when he lost control on the ice-covered roadway. The Howell school bus heading north was struck head-on when it attempted to avoid the truck as it crossed into the northbound lane.

All occupants of the bus were released at the scene to family members. The driver of the Silverado and his 18-year-old female passenger were treated at the scene by Livingston County EMS before being released.

The driver of the Silverado was cited for speed too fast for conditions and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
