Meet the “Apartment 3A” cast: Sean Lauren plays Donald, the interesting neighbor

From From now until opening night on Feb. 22, the Livingston Post will be profiling cast members of the Hartland Players MainStage production of “Apartment 3A,” an adult comedy by Jeff Daniels.

1. Biographical info: Name, age, parent(s) name(s), siblings, year in school, activities, hobbies, future plans.
Sean Lauren, 36, is a programmer, player, writer, and jack of all trades. Graduated from MTU with a Bachelors in Computer Science. He is husband to an amazing wife, Emily, who recently opened the Hartland Quilt Shop just off M-59 west of 23. Loves all things nerdy, tech, and DIY. Would love to make his own video game company or to become a movie star, famed author, philosopher, traveler, Mars resident, or POTUS.

2. Character info.
Donald is an interesting neighbor to say the least. He will be part of your life whether you want him to or not as he kindly ignores all hints of displeasure and desire for him to leave. You will be his friend and you will tell him everything!

3. How did you get involved with the production?
Donald and I are buds. While we differ on life perspectives and taking a hint, we share a style of self-expression and knowing what everyone else truly needs–mostly eggs. So naturally, I auditioned for the position and slipped the director a $20 to land the role.

4. Have you been in any other theatrical productions? If so, what roles did you play?
I have played the master-mind villain Rooster from “Annie,” both Utterson and an instance of Hyde in the stage adaptation of “Jekyll and Hyde,” as well as Ken, a confused party guest, in our hysterical production of “Rumors.”

5. What do you most enjoy about being part of the production?
It never gets old working with fellow thespians, learning lines, and practicing them out on stage. We all work together to build something greater than ourselves and the failures along the way can be astonishingly humorous.

6. Who is/are your inspiration(s)? Why?
Steve Carell is one of my favorite actors. He seems so versatile, hilarious, and surprisingly sane, all at the same time.

7. What’s your favorite part of the experience of being in the production?
Let’s just say… I’ve “learned” a lot about the mating habits of Siberian Polar Bears and it’s Grrrrrreat (no relation to a tiger-endorsed cereal).

8. What can audience members expect when they see the show?
Expect to leave your children at home unless you are fond of extremely uncomfortable situations and topics (see question 7). This performance will have you rolling in laughter, squirming in your seat, and questioning the fate of Big Bird.
