The skies over Howell were decorated with balloons of all shapes, sizes and colors Wednesday evening, as the annual Balloonfest Media Night gave everyone a preview of the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest to come. Coupled with a calm, cool evening, the launch delighted people living within eyeshot who took to the streets to watch the magnificent balloons gliding overhead.

Superstitious Balloonfest fans were most certainly taking the picture-perfect evening as an indicator of smooth soaring ahead for the event that is, in large part, dependent on the weather.

Five launches are scheduled during Balloonfest, which runs June 22-24 at the Howell High School campus.

In addition to the launches, there are a whole slew of fun activities planned for the family friendly weekend that draws tens of thousands of visitors to Howell, including fireworks Friday night; the Veterans Ceremony set for 11 a.m. Saturday with a scheduled B-25 flyover from the Yankee Air Museum; and the popular band Annabelle Road performing Saturday night.
