MICHIGAN-StateWide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM) releases this statement demanding Democratic Senators do whatever it takes to pass the For the People Act (S1) immediately.  For the People Act (S1) will create national standards to ensure we can safely and freely cast our ballots.

State-Wide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM) demands Democratic Senators do whatever it takes to pass the For the People Act (S1) immediately. Senate Republicans have used the filibuster to block a public floor debate from even beginning. The same Republican Senators who spread lies about our election and blocked a bipartisan investigation into a deadly attack on our Capitol are trying to use the same loophole to block legislation that a majority of Americans across the political spectrum have overwhelmingly demanded to protect our freedom to vote.

In Michigan, Republican legislators want to silence our voices by passing anti-voter bills that will set up deliberate barriers to voting. S1 will help us realize the promise of democracy and help stop their efforts by creating national standards for voter accessibility, whatever our color, background or ZIP code.

The members of StateWide Indivisible Michigan believe the updated For the People Act has a clear path forward and we expect the Senate to overcome the filibuster and take this bill up as a first priority in September.
