LETTER: Catholic Charities looking for volunteers to work with seniors

Livingston County Catholic Charities (LCCC) is proud to be the largest provider of senior services in Livingston County. With six unique senior service programs, LCCC is always looking to support the growing demographic and need of seniors in our community. As the need continues to grow, so does the need for additional hands to help. LCCC is seeking volunteers for a variety of programs and upcoming projects!

Our new Home Injury Control and Chore (HIC and Chore) Program has filled a vital need in the community in its first year offering small home upgrades and maintenance projects to help home bound seniors remain safe and independent in their own homes. LCCC is now excited to offer weatherization services for seniors to help keep their homes warm and their utility bills low. With this new service, there has been a large influx of requests for weatherization. To ensure that every senior receives the care they are in need of, we are in need of volunteers to assist our home injury control and chore supervisor with various projects. Time commitments and dates for volunteer opportunities are flexible. No previous experience is required. For more information on volunteering with our home injury control and chore program please contact Beth Newman at beth@livingstoncc.org

In addition to the HIC and Chore program, LCCC Senior Services is also excited to officially launch this year’s 2023 Senior Christmas Blessings Project. This project provides much needed basic needs items, Christmas cheer, and friendly visits to local home bound and low-income seniors. This project is a tremendous undertaking each year in our community, providing love, help and hope to vulnerable county seniors.

Last year’s Christmas Blessing project provided food boxes, cleaning products, hygiene items, paper products and more to 280 county seniors and their families. LCCC plans to serve a record 300+ county seniors this upcoming Christmas Season.

The Board and co-workers at LCCC are grateful for the outpouring of love and generosity thus far. Inflation and the growing need in the community make this project more difficult each year. Donations, sponsorships, and volunteers from our community are more important than ever before. The support we have received thus far is truly heartwarming and signifies the incredible county we live in. This project is far from complete however, LCCC is seeking additional donations and volunteers to assist with the 2023 Christmas Blessings Project. If you are able to help in any way or know a senior that could benefit from this project, please contact Suzi Snyder at suzi@livingstoncc.org.

We are stronger as a community when we work together and support each other. If you have any questions, please contact ryan@livingstoncc.org.
