Leja heads crew of largest, most-extensive set to appear on Hartland HS stage

April 20, 2018

The Hartland High School Drama Club’s production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” takes the stage at the high school April 20-22 and April 27-29. From now until opening night, we’ll be introducing you to members of the production.

Holly Leja, a senior at Hartland High School, became involved in Drama Club her sophomore year, and she’s been dedicated to set crew ever since.

“I really love being able to create things that others use on stage and seeing how everything is made by the coolest group of kids in this school,” Leja said.

The set for this production is just as crucial as the actors on the stage. It is the largest and most extensive to ever appear on the Hartland High School stage, designed and created by Hannah Kenrick and Leja, with help from the small army of students and parent volunteers on Set Crew. Audience members will truly feel as if they are sitting inside the Notre Dame Cathedral or on the streets of Paris. The beauty, detail, and scope of the elements must be seen in person.

Leja cites the previous co-head among her inspirations because, “he taught me how to think of solutions for problems, and that it’s important to have fun while also getting the work done.”

“The Set Crew advisors, Chris and Kathy Piper, obviously because they are so giving and care so much about this club and students,” Leja said. “They have always been there for me.”

Her favorite part of this production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” has been seeing the production go from sketches to a “real, beautiful set piece.”

“Audience members can expect to see, some very large, detailed pieces that are cool as heck,” Leja said.

Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students/seniors, and can be purchased at http://hartlanddramaclub.weebly.com/ or at the door.
