Hall of Fame former Hartland football coach Tom Barbieri dies

Tom Barbieri, a legendary football coach who had some of his best years at Hartland High School, died Saturday, April 17, following a long illness.

Barbieri was named the Livingston County Football Coach of the Year in 1988, 1990 and 1991 while coaching at Hartland. He also coached the softball team at Hartland and served as the school’s athletic director and was named the Livingston County Softball Coach of the Year in 1986 after leading the Eagles to a Kensington Valley Conference championship.

His coaching career also included stops at Gaylord High School, Boyne City High School and Dexter High School, winning numerous championships and awards along the way. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Association Coaches Hall of Fame. You can read his bio and watch his Hall of Fame induction speech here.
