Fowlerville gymnastics team heading to state finals after winning regional championship

The Fowlerville High School gymnastics team is heading to the state finals next weekend after winning the first regional championship in school history over the weekend.

The Fowlerville team includes gymnasts from Fowlerville, Pinckney, Byron and Perry high schools. The state finals take place Friday and Saturday at Rockford High School.

The Glads won the regional championship by topping Hartland, Howell, Brighton, Cass City, Bad Axe, Ubly, East Lansing, DeWitt, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Williamston, Bath, Holt, Mason, Linden, Fenton, Lake Fenton, Vassar, Caro, Frankenmuth, Reese, Millington and Mayville.

The Fowlerville team is coached by Katie Paquette, Corinne Zachos and Yana Damitio.

In addition to the entire team qualifying for the state finals, the Glads had a number of individuals qualify, as well.

Individual state qualifiers in Division II are Izzy Litz (third on vault, fifth on floor and second all-around), Sarah Litz (seventh on beam, fifth on floor and fourth all-around), Taylor Gillespie (sixth on floor), Bekah Leonard (sixth on beam), Hannah Ray (fourth on vault), and Dani Wolanin (first on bars and sixth all-around).

In Division I, the state qualifiers are Kenzie Brigham (fourth on floor, seventh on vault, sixth on bars and fifth all-around) and Gabby Jolliff (first on vault and eighth on bars).

In addition to winning the regional championship, the Glads also won the Capital Area Athletics Conference championship this season.

Team members are Kallie Beauchamp, Natilee Beauchamp, Kenzie Brigham, Lani Burnie, Caitlin Chisholm (Pinckney HS), Madi Flamini, Amanda Fogo, Anne-Marie Germaine (Pinckney HS), Taylor Gillespie, Emma Hancock, Gabby Jolliff, Bekah Leonard, Izzy Litz, Sarah Litz, Madison Moran, Hannah Ray, Quinn Soerries, Raimi Soerries, Embre Wilson (Perry HS) and Dani Wolanin (Byron HS).
