Fowlerville Community Schools board approves plan for in-person learning

//

The Fowlerville Community Schools Board of Education voted unanimously tonight to approve a plan that allows for face-to-face learning in the fall. Parents will have the option of choosing either in-person learning or all distance learning for their students. The face-to-face plan will have students attending in-person school four days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays). Wednesdays will be a remote-learning day.

The first day of school will be Sept. 2.

The board took input last week and this week on the plan – both for and against. A number of people – most of whom identified themselves as Fowlerville teachers – encouraged the board to adopt an all-distance-learning plan. A number of others – primarily parents – said that for a number of reasons, it’s vital to offer in-person learning.

  1. Why do we have to find out this information from the newspaper?! The administration should have something posted on the school website and an email blast should have gone out! Parents and students should have a choice of what option works best for their family. Some may not feel safe enough to send their child to school, especially if they or someone in their family is at high risk.

  2. This experiment will fail. Everyone will be back home soon for 100% online learning. Just watch.

  3. The FEA has to approve the start date it can still be the 31 of Aug if not approved.

  4. The FEA has to approve the 2nd otherwise they start the 31 as was stated in the meeting.

  5. How can the first day of school for in person learning be on a Wednesday? Does that mean the kids who are doing in person learning will start on the remote learning day?

    • Most of the parents did not request in person. Many sided and supported the teachers concerns and many voiced opinion that if there was in person without hybrid model social distancing would not be possible. Other schools in district are doing hybrid and unsure why a county decision was not made instead of district since we are operating under county case numbers.

  6. Perfect combination for our children! Parents need to be able to choose what is best for their children! Kudos to the board for recognizing the over 75% of patents who want their children to be in school!
