Defining Linda …

I reached a milestone birthday recently. I turned 60.

I’m thankful for every year – I’ve already lived longer than my mother, who died when she was in her early 50s. I suppose that’s why scrapbooking and the recording of my life and memories of my family are so important to me.

My mother and I never found the time to sit around and talk about her life as a youngster, her parents and grandparents or her brothers and sisters – and then she was gone. Over the years there’s been many unanswered questions of a time before I was born and her life as she was growing up. There are always aunts and uncles to talk to, but it’s just not my mother’s story – it’s theirs. So I scrapbook to tell my story – my scrapped treasures. I want my children and grandchildren to know what it was like raising their mother or father – the fun times we had, bad times and sad times.

I recently scrapped a page titled “Defining Linda.” I’ve included photos at different stages in my life – toddler, graduate, young mother, bride and current. The journaling is a reflection of how I feel now. I’ve used a coordinating line of papers from BoBunny Press called Mama-razzi with Core’dinations cardstock. The papers are nicely distressed already so I finished the cut edges using the direct-to-paper technique with Tim Holtz Ranger Distress in Walnut Stain. This technique was also used on all the photo edges because it gives the papers and photos a finished look covering up the white edges. With the finished edges and muted background the photos didn’t even require matting!

Four tiny photos are tucked behind the Tim Holtz Filmstrip ribbon which is attached with the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and a brad with washer. The ticket stub, distressed and inked with Walnut Stain, is also a Tim Holtz design and the word Story was perfect for this page. I ran the journal block through my computer because with the smaller type I can say more than if handwritten. The journal block is finished off with the addition of three tiny gems from Kaiser Craft and there are Mama-razzi rub-ons in the bottom left corner and three brads are inserted into the border strips on the right.

The layout is pretty basic and the page came together quite quickly! It’s becoming one of my favorites and is a nice addition to the scrapbook.
