Christmas is coming a little early this year when a sneak peek of “A Christmas Winter Song,” the Lifetime Channel holiday movie filmed in Brighton, is shown at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. The screening — set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 — is free, but Bountiful Harvest will be on hand to collect money from those who wish to make a donation.

This special screening at the BCPA gives attendees a two-day jump on the movie’s world premier, which is set for 8 p.m. Saturday on the Lifetime Channel.

Various locations in downtown Brighton were used for filming in the spring. Some of the locations featured include the Millpond, Lynn’s Cafe, and Wood ’N’ Things. Staff from Wood ‘N’ Things will be on hand at the BCPA to discuss the filming and what is was like making a cameo appearance.

In the movie, Ashanti plays Clio, a Christmas shop owner, who befriends Fred (Stan Shaw), a former jazz singer who is down on his luck. In the spirit of the holiday season, Clio welcomes Fred into her shop to perform for her customers.

Clio, who just lost her own father and is grappling with whether she wants to have children, helps Fred reconnect with his daughter and grandchildren just in time for the town’s annual Christmas concert.

In addition to singing, Ashanti is also known for her acting roles in “Army Wives,” “Mothers and Daughters,” “Coach Carter,” “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz,” “John Tucker Must Die” and “Resident Evil: Extinction.”

The film was produced by Danny Roth, who lives in Howell.
