The Hartland High School Drama Club’s production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” takes the stage at the high school April 20-22 and April 27-29. From now until opening night, we’ll be introducing you to members of the production.

When Austin Bickel learned the Hartland High School Drama Club was going to do “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” this season, he jumped at the chance to be part of the production.

“I’ve been with the drama club since the beginning of my freshman year and when I heard that the musical was The Hunchback of Notre Dame I wanted more than anything to be a part of it,” Bickel said.

Bickel, who plays Quasimodo, is the son of Brian and Laura Bickel, and he has two brothers, Scott and Eric. He is a sophomore at HHS and enjoys participating in both band and choir.

“The drama club is like a second family for me,” Bickel said.  “As a freshman, everyone was so welcoming and encouraging.”

“My grandmother is my inspiration,” he said. “She was the one that got me into acting and my biggest supporter.”

Bickel’s loves the music in the production: “It is by far my favorite part and the audience can expect incredible singing and acting as well as fun, high energy dance numbers in the show.”

Shows are April 20-22 and April 27-29 at Hartland High School, 10635 Dunham Road, Hartland. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students/seniors, and can be purchased at or at the door.
