A few good tools…

I just spent the most wonderful weekend with a good friend, a few good tools, inks and pretty papers! My friend Cathy and I made plans to spend the weekend crafting, eating and relaxing at Sunset Shores in Clare. It was just the two of us so I invited Dennis to join us – he packed a good book and the kayaks and was our chauffeur for the weekend stopping at Di’s Ink in Bay City, a craft store in Clare, and Arnie’s in Houghton Lake. I packed my Ranger Distress Inks and blending tools, non-stick craft sheet, heat tool, alcohol inks and loads of Tim Holtz and Wendy Vecchi stamps and figured Cathy was good for whatever I forgot. I love how creative you can be with just a few good tools!

For the past two years I have wanted to create a garden journal – one that would hold garden notes, quotes and tips of what works, what doesn’t, what needs to be planted and what needs to be discarded. The journal would also hold photos and notes taken on visits to public gardens and the annual LACASA Garden Tour – things I might like to try one day and photos of plantings and garden accessories that inspire.

It’s been a long time in theory, just waiting for the right papers, inks, stamps or inspiration – then the UPS driver delivered a box from 7 Gypsies. I opened the box and fell in love with the company’s new Conservatory line of papers and embellishments. The colors, the patterns – it all fit! Flowers, birds, garden creatures – it’s all there and perfect for this project. I spent three days at the retreat – early morning to the wee hours of the next day – immersed in the project. I didn’t want to stop! The ideas just kept flowing and when I got hung up Cathy came through with suggestions, in fact, I credit her with the title.

The project, “The Gardenista’s Almanac,” is nearly finished. It’s just waiting for photos and journaling to be added before it hits the calendar as a two-day workshop in October at Scrap Tales. Watch for more workshop info and photos soon to show up at http://scrappedtreasures.com.
