Why I changed my mind on retiring from Legislature

State Rep. Bob Bezotte

After careful consideration over the past several months, I have decided to run to continue as the representative for the 50th House District in Lansing. I am committed to continuing our fight in Lansing for our conservative values.

I have had several of my constituents and friends ask me why I have decided to run again after announcing I was retiring. It’s a fair question, and despite the reason being a personal one, I feel I owe an honest answer.

The truth is I have loved my long-time career of public service – from sheriff to county commissioner to state representative. I did not want to retire; however, faced with the choice of continuing in a job I loved or else trying to save a 50-year marriage to a woman I loved, I chose to give up the job in order to try to save the marriage.

Unfortunately, that choice proved to be fruitless – the marriage is beyond repair.  I’m sad to say I’ve fully accepted the fact my divorce will go through.

Having been encouraged by my family, many of my fellow Republican legislators and many, many of my constituents to continue to remain in the Legislature during this very important election year, I have decided to run again for the 50th District.

Prior to deciding to run again, I gave endorsements in order to support the individuals I believed were the best candidates at that time. However, for obvious reasons, I am rescinding those endorsements and ask that those candidates cease using them in their advertising.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my family for their continued support, as well as everyone else for their encouragement and support for me personally, as well as their past support for me as sheriff, county commissioner and state representative.
