Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly coming to Michigan in the coming days to campaign against 8th District U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, R-Holly, and her decision to support an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
And the visit could be in Livingston County.
A report in Politico this morning said that Pence is targeting several swing-district Democratic members of Congress who support an impeachment inquiry. Slotkin fits that bill. She flipped a long-held Republican seat last year, and the Cook Political Report currently rates the 8th as a toss-up district.
The 8th Congressional District includes all of Ingham and Livingston counties, and northern Oakland County. Local GOP officials say they’ve gotten no confirmation as to a date and location for Pence’s visit. Livingston County is the most Republican-heavy part of the district.
The Politico story said that Pence will kick off his tour Wednesday in Iowa and Thursday in Minnesota, followed by campaign stops in Virginia and Michigan (in the 8th District). So the visit could come in the next week.
Slotkin faced a contentious townhall last week at the Cromaine District Library in Hartland when the topic of impeachment came up. CNN was there, and they have the video here.
