United Way looking for Day of Caring projects, volunteers

The Livingston County United Way’s 22nd Annual Day of Caring is set for Wednesday, Aug. 7. This one-day event brings together volunteers to assist those needing help in our community: last year, 50 projects involved over 750 volunteers.

Worksite proposals are being accepted. Work requests can be minor household repairs and projects, cleaning or yard work the homeowner is not able to do, and anyone can recommend a worksite and apply for someone who needs extra help.

The registration deadline for worksites is Monday, June 10.

Volunteers can register individually or as groups; companies, clubs and organizations often participate together. Volunteers can choose to work all day, or for a morning or afternoon shift.

The registration deadline for volunteers is Sunday, June 30.

Citizens Insurance Co. of America is hosting a luncheon for all Day of Caring volunteers at its Howell headquarters.

“This gives our volunteers a chance to relax, enjoy great food and share stories with others who have helped out,” said Patricia Slater, LCUW’s executive director. “This day touches lives in a big way — for the recipients as well as the volunteers.”
