Two killed in motorcycle crash in Handy Township

An accident at the intersection of Owosso and West Allen roads in Handy Township in western Livingston County claimed the lives of two people on a motorcycle at approximately 2:25 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2018.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department reports that a 2005 cargo van, heading north on Owosso Road, turned west onto West Allen Road when it was struck by the motorcycle, which was traveling south on Owosso Road.

A 19-year-old Canton resident was driving the cargo van, with a 17-year-old passenger from New Hudson inside.

Killed in the crash was the driver of the motorcycle, a 28-year-old Laingsburg resident, and the passenger, a 31-year-old Fowlerville resident. Both the motorcycle operator and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston County EMS.

The driver of the cargo van suffered minor injuries, and the passenger was transported to St. Joseph Livingston Hospital by Livingston County EMS with minor injuries.

The intersection of Owosso Road and West Allen Road was closed for approximately 4-1/2 hours during the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff Traffic Safety Division.
