Three Livingston County students receive Lake Trust Credit Union scholarships

Lake Trust Credit Union, a community-based credit union serving nearly 200,000 individuals and businesses throughout Michigan, announced the recipients of the 2020 New Beginnings Scholarship and the 2020 Michigan Impact Scholarship. These two unique scholarship opportunities are sponsored by the Lake Trust Foundation to support Michigan students in pursuing their next chapter of their education.

Three Livingston County students were among the 11 to receive one of two unique scholarships from the Lake Trust Credit Union’s foundation — the 2020 New Beginnings scholarship, intended for students seeking education in highly valued trade work, and the Michigan Impact scholarship for students of Cleary University.

2020 New Beginnings Scholarship
The 2020 New Beginnings Scholarship, which aims to highlight skilled trade work as a career path in Michigan, is designed for students looking to further their education or career in a technical or trade field at a Michigan college or university in the next 12 months. Six winners were selected to receive up to $5,000 for tuition costs, trade equipment, professional dues and/or certifications. This year’s recipients included applicants from across Southern Michigan representing engineers, nursing programs, technicians and welders. See below for the complete list of recipients, their field of interest and school of choice.

Leena Bekkala of Howell received one of these scholarships. She is studying ICU nursing at Lansing Community College.

2020 Michigan Impact Scholarship
Lake Trust Foundation’s 2020 Michigan Impact Scholarship committee awarded five full-tuition scholarships for Michigan residents interested in attending Cleary University at its Livingston or Detroit campuses or online. Special consideration was given this year to applicants pursuing an education in one of Michigan’s Hot 50 Careers through 2026, to represent the demands of Michigan’s changing labor market.

“There has been a long acknowledgement of the skills gap and lack and increasing cost of advanced education and training. Through our New Beginnings and Michigan Impact scholarship programs, Lake Trust Foundation is committed to making a difference in this area and is proud to offer scholarships to talented individuals to support their individual educational journey while supporting the state’s economic growth,” said David Snodgrass, Lake Trust CEO and resident of the Lake Trust Foundation.
